K-Drama Review #2: 100 Days My Prince

(Do Kyung-soo and Nam Ji-hyun)
100 Days My Prince is a 2018 a South Korean television series starring Do Kyung-soo (Exo's D.O) and Nam Ji-hyun. It was aired on tvN starting from September 10 - October 30, 2018 every Monday and Tuesday and it was also aired in the Philippines under ABS-CBN network on October 7, 2019. It is the fifth highest-rated Korean drama cable television in history.

Main Characters

(Lee Yul/ Na Won-deuk)
Lee Yul (Do Kyung-soo) is an idealistic crown prince who transforms into a low status man after a near fatal accident. Despite his amnesia, Yul maintains the speaking style of a noble man, to the villagers' annoyance and also lands himself in constant trouble because of this. He also retains his intelligence and martial arts skill, especially archery. However, he is completely useless with daily chores and activities of a peasant, such as making straw shoes, using the sickle, and chopping woods.

(Yoon Yi-suh/Yeon Hong-shim)

Yoon Yi-suh (Nam Ji-hyun) is an intelligent and strong woman who used to be a noblewoman and now runs Joseon's first all-solution agency in Songjoo village. She is shown to be fiercely independent and crass at times, and is always getting into arguments with Won-deuk. She hides her true identity from everyone in the village, except for her adoptive father.

Verdict

(Young Lee Yul and Young Yoon Yi-suh)

The plot is somewhat interesting in some ways. Al though I am really used to the story of "childhood sweethearts" ended up together in the end, this drama still meets my expectation. As you can see it may be similar to the first K-Drama that I reviewed which is "Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency" whereas the Female lead got separated with her elder brother when they were young and reunited again after many years.

The story of this drama is quite more complicated than the 2019 KDrama that I have reviewed.

(King)
(Vice Premier Kim Cha-eon)

Lee Yul's father became a puppet King (Jo Han-chul) controlled by Vice Premier Kim Cha-eon (Jo Sung-ha) who is also his father-in-law. His relationship with his father is strained due to the manner in which his father seized the throne with the help of the Vice Premier and one of the consequences of it is the death of Lee Yul's mother.

(Lee Yul/Na Won-deuk and Yoon Yi-suh/ Yeon Hong-shim)

Lee Yul and Yoon Yi-suh met again after 10 years of being apart without them knowing who they really are. They are forced to get wedded as per the Crown Prince's order to marry off all the single men and women in their 20's to ease the drought. What I like about in this couple is that they always see the bright side of each other regardless of what their relatives' done to the both of their family and yes, they ended up together when the King orders to marry off single men and women in their 20's to pressure Lee Yul to get married.

I really expected that  Do Kyung-soo will do his best in this drama just like what he did to his previous movies with other veteran actors. Kudos to the staffs and actors in this drama they really made it unique in my eyes.

(Crown Princess Kim So-hye and Yoon Seok-ha/Moo-yeon)

I cried a bucket of tears in this couple because Moo-yeon (Kim Jae-young) died when they were supposed to elope and have a new life with his sister Yoon Yi-suh. They really love each other regardless of the fact that Kim So-hye (Han So-hee) is married to the crown prince and her father killed Moo-yeon's father. I felt sad for the couple eventhough Lee Yul gave them a second chance to love each other and start a new life but the Vice Premier ruined it and order to kill Moo-yeon but I am glad that Yoon Yi-suh did not hold a grudge over Kim So-hye who's pregnant with her brother's child. The unexpected pairing of this two actor is effect for the viewers, cheers to the staffs!

(Park Seon-do)

(Park Bok-eun)

Honestly I am bored with the corrupt officials in dramas were they show how low they can go just to get the power on their hands and you know what will happened next--- they get punished accordingly. But I love how they get punished in the end just like what happened to Park Seon-do (Ahn Suk-hwan), his wealth is confiscated and his title as a nobleman was remove, he became a servant to the newly promoted magistrate Park Bok-eun (Lee Joon-hyuk). You will really get served what you deserve. This two characters add a little light mood in the drama.

(Jung Jae-yoon)

I am sad for Jung Jae-yoon's (Kim Seon-ho) charater here for having an unrequited love for Yeon Hong-shim. His relationship with his Kisaeng friend, a professional female entertainer in Joseon Dynasty, is worth giving a shot if given a chance to be shown, so that he has his own end game, but sadly he doesn't love his friend the way she loves him.

The settings and costumes are really nice. They truly paid attention on the plot twists of this drama where characters has conflicted relationship with the other characters.
